Dictionary of Types and Symbols
This page contains the explanations to words that have symbolic meaning. The Bible is full of symbols —especially the books of Daniel & Revelation— and these symbols can only be understood correctly if the Bible is used as the interpreter. All the words are in alphabetical order and backed with Bible references and notes.
Woman:
A woman typifies a ‘church’ in the Bible. There are two distinct churches referenced, righteous and wicked, pure or unfaithful. God’s church is often represented as a bride, while the apostate church is symbolised by a whore, a harlot, or a prostitute.
Jer 6:2 I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.
Hos 2:19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.
Hos 2:20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.
Jdg 2:17 And yet they would not hearken unto their judges, but they went a whoring after other gods, and bowed themselves unto them: they turned quickly out of the way which their fathers walked in, obeying the commandments of the LORD; but they did not so.
